Innovative EO-based solutions
to support key European fisheries
directives and standards
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Over the next two years, DEEPBLUEx2 will develop innovative, high-quality Earth Observation (EO)-based solutions to support fisheries operations and monitor their environmental impact. Four use cases will be implemented across different regions of the Atlantic and Artic, providing Early Adopters with valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the environmental factors influencing their activities.
USE CASES
Route optimization for fisheries operators
EO data, AIS tracking, and near real-time analytics to guide captains to optimal fishing locations efficiently
Safety at sea for small scale fisheries
Short term weather forecast, tailored risk indicators, and route planning interfaces accessible via smartphones
Reduced impact from bycatch
Bycatch predictive model, onboard utility for data recording and sharing, historical fishing activity
Parametric insurance for fisheries operators
Predictive risk models to support new insurance that protect fishermen from loss of revenue due to weather
THE CONSORTIUM
The project is led by Indra Deimos, a trusted expert in EO-based solutions and integrated systems, in collaboration with OLSPS, a global leader in data science and predictive technology for fisheries (creators of the Olrac fisheries e-logbook), and Bessé, the largest fisheries insurance consultancy in France. This unique combination of expertise across the fisheries value chain enables the development of vertically integrated applications that can significantly impact stakeholders with diverse profiles.
Ensuring the sustainability of the future food supply chain is a global challenge, and DEEPBLUEx2 is a major step toward fostering a more sustainable fisheries sector and strengthening the Blue Economy.
ESA’s PEOPLE Initiative
DEEPBLUEx2 is funded by the European Space Agency’s EO for a Sustainable Blue Economy initiative under the PEOPLE (Pioneer Earth Observation ApPLications for the Environment) program, aimed at developing innovative high-quality EO-based application products, indicators and methods, targeting specific high-priority research and development (R&D) matters raised by the international environment policy agenda and with a distinct connection to the European Union (EU) Green Deal.
